IF you had underestimated the rot in the society, a trip to Apapa will open your eyes to the sordid state of infrastructure decay in the land. The apathy of those in government to maintenance is even worse that the rot itself.
Liverpool is to heavy duty trucks and lorries what Ojuelegba is to taxis and commuter buses. It is a turning point....and it has literally become a turning point. Laden container trucks are falling head over bodies since the beginning the rains.
Last Thursday, I counted 4 containers as they lay peacefully by a pool of shallow water. The containers were laden with white paint import.
Friday, 3 more containers took the place of the earlier rescued 4. This time it was oil products that spilled all over.
On Sunday, as if the road is vehement about its needs, a container of white paint tripped and fell over.
Monday was a holiday and the road rested.
Since the resumption of work, Liverpool roundabout has equally resumed duties in full seriousness. It's been various gory daymare tales to all users of the road. It finally got to a head yesterday The suffering of yesterday is better imagined than experienced. A container was destined for a fall. Not wanting to go down alone, she nestled snugly in the sweet embrace of another passing container in a mortal kiss of death. As of now, since yesterday, the sweet hug is still firmly placed causing tears and sorrow to all and everyone.
